　〔出血性貧血〕は、急性あるいは慢性の出血により血液が失われ、これに対して骨髄での赤血球の産生が追いつかない場合に生じる貧血です。

　大怪我や喀血、吐血、下血などで大量出血すると〔急性貧血〕になりますが、全血量の1/3が失われると〔ショック症状〕が起こります。

　また、胃や十二指腸潰瘍、胃・大腸癌、潰瘍性大腸炎などで少量ながら継続的な出血があると〔慢性出血性貧血〕となります。

　貧血の中では〔鉄欠乏症貧血〕が最も多く、〔出血性貧血〕がそれに次いで多く見られます。特に、女性では、毎月の月経や出産時の出血でも〔出血性貧血〕の症状がでてきます。

　貧血が起こると、赤血球による酸素運搬能力が低下するので、これを代償するために動悸や息切れの症状が出ます。更に、全身倦怠感や食欲不振にもなります。

　症状が進行すると、爪が反り返るようになったり、物を飲み込めなくなる〔嚥下障害〕が出ることもあります。
