　胸膜炎は、肺の外部を覆う胸膜に炎症が起こる疾患で、以前には「肋膜炎(ろくまくえん)」とも呼ばれていた病気です。

　胸膜炎は、それ自体で発症することは少なく、多くの場合、肺がんや肺結核、肺炎などに引き続いて発症します。

　胸膜炎の症状としては、発熱や咳、痰などのほか、胸水が貯留することによる胸の痛みや呼吸困難が出現します。
